Description:

Info

Due to the Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) setting in Fabric OS (FOS) version 8.1.0 for the HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switch, the switch may experience intermittent I/O errors while operating at 16Gb. This issue is most likely to occur following an action that causes a port to initialize, such as bringing a new port online or disabling followed by enabling an active port. If experienced, the issue will most likely be seen as the port reporting No_Sync . The probability of occurrence is low but could be experienced on FOS 8.1.0 and after any FOS upgrade until the full corrective action is implemented to adjust the SerDes value. The issue can occur while using a 16Gb or 32Gb SFP+ optic locked to 16Gb or after auto speed negotiation to 16Gb.

Scope

This issue only affects the HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switch running FOS 8.1.0 on ports operating at 16Gb. Switches upgraded from FOS 8.1.0 to FOS version 8.1.0a and later that were not rebooted after the upgrade could also be affected while operating at 16Gb until they are rebooted to enable the SerDes value changes. Switches shipped with FOS 8.1.0a or later installed will not be affected by this issue.

Resolution

HPE strongly recommends that you upgrade any HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switches shipped with FOS version 8.1.0 to FOS 8.1.0a or later, prior to deployment in your SAN in order to avoid any fabric disruption when performing any future firmware upgrade. The steps to upgrade the HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switch from FOS 8.1.0 to FOS 8.1.0a or later will require a disruptive upgrade and the use of the firmwaredownload -s CLI command. NOTE: The following procedure will be disruptive to user I/O by causing a switch reboot to enable the new SerDes values. To upgrade the HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switch from FOS 8.1.0 to 8.1.0a or later, issue the firmwaredownload -s command and select Y when prompted for Auto-Commit after restart and after reboot system after download. For example: To obtain the switch firmware: Go to http://www.hpe.com and click Support . Under Product Support, click HPE Servers, Storage and Networking . Search for your SN3600B switch. If this results in another screen to select the correct product, select the product. Click get drivers, software & firm ware, then select your specific switch from the next screen. Select English from the Driver Language drop-down menu and select OS Independent from the Operating systems in English drop-down menu. Click the + to expand the Firmware (Entitlement Required) table under OS Independent Downloads. Find your firmware in the Description column: To download the firmware, click Download . In the Manuals section, see the Fabric OS Administrator's Guide for a description of the process to verify the firmware download is complete, as well as information on features and other important information pertinent to the firmware version. Workaround Lock the port speed of the HPE StoreFabric SN3600B FC SAN Switch running FOS 8.1.0 to a speed other than 16Gb that is supported by the installed optic and the end device.
