Info

Document Version Release Date Details 3 March 11, 2024 Updated document with latest available information 2 September 29, 2022 Updated document with the latest information 1 July 14, 2017 Original document release When applying a server profile with local storage on a ProLiant Gen9 series server when no Gen9 SPP or SSP has been imported into HPE OneView, the operation will fail with a critical alert containing the following error message: Unable to apply local storage settings on the server. timed out waiting for the results of the operation from the server iLO. Resolution: Retry applying the server profile to this server. This occurs because HPE OneView boots into the SSP/SPP in order to send commands to the Gen9 server to configure local storage. If there is no SSP/SPP in HPE OneView to use, HPE OneView will be unable to configure local storage on the profile. This occurs due to a combination of two anomalies. One, an anomaly in OneView causes the server to boot into HPE Intelligent Provisioning installed on the Gen9 servers instead of booting into the service OS bundled with the HPE Synergy Software Pack (SPP) or HPE Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) that is uploaded. Additionally, the HPE Intelligent Provisioning has an anomaly that causes the local storage configuration to fail.

Scope

Any Management of local storage with OneView 6.6 (or later) for ProLiant Gen9 c-Class, Rack and Synergy servers.

Resolution

The anomaly causing the server to boot into Intelligent Provisioning instead of the Service OS bundled in the SPP, will be fixed in a future release. As a workaround, update the Intelligent Provisioning to version 2.87 or later on the server, which will allow the local storage configuration to succeed. This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.
