Document Version Release Date Details 2 07/26/2018 Updated Resolution with permanent fix, OneView 4.10. 1 01/08/2018 Original document release When attempting to apply the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP)in an offline mode (firmware only) via HPE OneView, a screen similar to the following may be seen in OneView: The major impact of the behavior of OneView in this scenario is that any activity that causes a server reboot will, in most instances, take twice as long to complete, since it has to be done twice. For example, if it normally takes 20 minutes to apply a profile, expect it to take 40 minutes if this issue is encountered. This issue occurs on Gen9 servers when the CPLD is updated as a part of the offline firmware updated on the EMBEDDED Smart Array Controller, when using Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version 2016.10 (or later). To date, this issue has ONLY been encountered on Gen9 servers. Additionally, it happens when the following firmware for various smart array controllers from the SPP is applied: firmware-smartarray-46a4d957a7-8.00-3.1.x86_64.rpm Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux (x64) - Smart Array D2220sb Storage Blade firmware-smartarray-ea3138d8e8-6.06-1.1.x86_64.rpm Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component for Linux (x64) - Smart Array H240ar, H240nr, H240, H241, H244br, P240nr, P244br, P246br, P440ar, P440, P441, P542D, P741m, P840, P840ar, and P841 hp-firmware-smartarray-112204add8-4.10-2.1.x86_64.rpm Supplemental Update / Online ROM Flash Component This issue may be seen when going from an older version of the SPP to a newer version of the SPP. In testing, the issue was able to be repeatedly reproduced when the following conditions were met: Starting Baseline <= 2016.04 (April 2016) Target Baseline >= 2016.10 (October 2016)

Scope

Any ProLiant Gen9 servers in the scenario described above. Only the following embedded controllers are impacted: Smart Array P440ar Smart Array P840ar Smart Array H240ar Smart Array P246br Smart Array P244br Smart Array H244br Smart Array P240nr Smart Array H240nr

Resolution

This is corrected in HPE OneView 4.10: https://h20392.www2.hpe.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=Z7550-63180 As a workaround, this issue can be avoided by excluding, from a custom SPP, the component that causes the reported behavior. Refer to the screenshot below for an example of which component to exclude when creating a custom SPP on the HPE SPP portal: If systems have an Embedded Smart Array controller (Px4xar or Px4xbr ) running firmware later than version 4.02, flash the SA firmware online. (no reboot or power removal needed). If systems have an Embedded SA controller (Px4xar or Px4xbr) running firmware version 4.02 (or earlier), then flash the SA firmware online. Shut down the system. Remove power and install the power back again. This advisory will be updated if additional solutions become available.
