Description:

Info

HPE C-series 16Gb FC LW SFP+ Transceivers may trigger invalid transmit (Tx) or receive (Rx) High Power Warnings due to incorrect Tx and Rx High Power Warning threshold values set during manufacturing. A transceiver Tx or Rx High Power Warning message is incorrectly produced when Tx or Rx power exceeds 0.50 dBm on affected transceivers. The correct High Power Warning threshold values for Tx and Rx should be 2.00 dBm.

Scope

This issue affects HPE C-series 16Gb FC LW SFP+ transceivers (Cisco PID: DS-SFP-FC16G-LW, HPE PN: C8S73A) with Date Codes 0000 to 2125. The Date Code is encoded in the transceiver serial number in character positions 4 through 7 (for example, serial number AVD2044N0NS has a date code of 2044). This issue is resolved in transceivers that were manufactured with Date Codes 2126 and later.

Resolution

If a High Tx or Rx Power Warning is encountered, Verify the date code of the affected transceiver If the date code is 2126 or later, the Power Warning is valid (>2.00 dBm). If the date code is 2125 or earlier, proceed to Step 2. Verify the actual Tx or Rx power levels from the console output. If the actual Tx or Rx power levels are >/= 2.00 dBm, the High Power Warning is valid (>2 dBm). If the actual Tx or Rx power levels are < 2.00 dBm, the High Power Warning is invalid and can be safely ignored. Replacement of affected HPE C-series 16Gb Fibre Channel Longwave optical transceivers is necessary only if the Tx orRx power level displayed in the console output is >/= 2.00 dBm. Example console and syslog messages with invalid High Tx and Rx Power Warning: Serial number is AVD2044N0NS. Cisco part number is 10-2673-01. Cisco pid is DS-SFP-FC16G-LW. No tx fault, no rx loss, in sync state. The actual Tx and Rx power levels can be seen on the "Tx Power" and "Rx Power" rows above, in the first column; Tx Power = 0.55 dBm and Rx Power = 0.62 dBm. Both Tx and Rx power values are <2.00 dBm and High Power Warnings can be safely ignored.
