Document Version Release Date Details 2 08/06/2018 Updated Resolution with permanent fix, HPE Superdome Flex Firmware Version 2.5.246 (or later) 1 03/12/2018 Original document release On an HPE Superdome Flex server, after the Operating System has booted, rebooting the Board Management Controller (BMC) may occasionally cause the Embedded Rack Management Controller (eRMC)/Rack Management Controller (RMC) to remove the BMC from the list of configured chassis. When this occurs, the eRMC/RMC "config -v" command will report that the chassis is "linked but not configured." Partition management will be lost for the chassis in error.
Any HPE Superdome Flex server.
This is corrected in HPE Superdome Flex Firmware Version 2.5.246 (or later): https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_914f439117b1446fa42b5d8d5d As a workaround: Avoid intentionally rebooting the BMC whenever the chassis is powered on. If error message "chassis <GEOID> linked but not configured" is seen, perform the following to recover from the error: 1. If the OS is booted, log into the OS as root and shut down the operating system: # shutdown -h -t now 2. AC power-cycle the chassis in error. This must be an actual AC power-cycle, by removing all power feed to the chassis, then re-enable power. Running POWER CYCLE BMC from the RMC/eRMC may not work. 3. Wait for the chassis to be configured by the RMC/eRMC; check the status using: RMC CLI> config -w -v 4. Then, power on the system again: RMC CLI> POWER ON Note: Products sold prior to the November 1, 2015 separation of Hewlett-Packard Company into Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and HP Inc. may have older product names and model numbers that differ from current models.
