Description:

Info

On any HPE ProLiant server running the HPE customized image for VMware ESXi 6.0 U3 or Vmware ESXi 6.5 U1, the sfcb-intelcim process may fail on the VMware ESXi host creating a zdump file in the /var/core/. This occurs because the Intel Common Information Model (CIM) provider is not compatible with native VMware drivers. A similar message to the following may be seen: For Vmware ESXi 6.0 /var/log/syslog.log OCD_Agent[35697]: intelcim:Intelcim_DeviceSensorProviderInit: initialize the Provider. OCD_Agent[35697]: find_loaded_drivers: Unable connect to driver igbn OCD_Agent[35697]: find_loaded_drivers: Unable connect to driver ixgben OCD_Agent[35697]: Unable to connect to base driver 1 OCD_Agent[35697]: Unable to connect to base driver 2 OCD_Agent[35697]: Cannot open control socket to device OCD_Agent[35697]: Unable to connect to base driver 1 OCD_Agent[35697]: Unable to connect to base driver 2 /var/log/vmkernel.log sfcb-intelcim: wantCoreDump:sfcb-intelcim signal:6 exitCode:0 coredump:disabled For VMware ESXi 6.5 /var/log/syslog.log OCD_Agent[68293]: intelcim:Intelcim_DeviceSensorProviderInit: initialize the Provider. OCD_Agent[68293]: ScanResponseOfCommand: Command 'vmkchdev -l | grep /var/log/vmkernel.log sfcb-intelcim: wantCoreDump:sfcb-intelcim signal:11 exitCode:0 coredump:enabled NOTE: This issue can occur with or without an HPE Intel-based network adapter configured in the server.

Scope

Any HPE ProLiant server running the HPE customized image for VMware ESXi 6.0 U3 or VMware ESXi 6.5 U1.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove the Intel CIM provider from the VMware ESXi host by performing the following commands: /etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog stop esxcli software vib remove -n=intelcim-provider /etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog start The Intel-cim provider will no longer be included in the HPE customized images for VMware ESXi 6.0, VMware ESXi 6.5 and VMware ESXi 6.7 and a fixed version needs to be installed manually when it becomes available from hpe.com; this advisory will be updated when this fixed version becomes available. Important: The Intel CIM provider functions as an agent for data collection for the HPE Intel-based adapters. The network driver and the CIM providers have to use the same device driver architecture (vmklinux or native) to enable the Active Health System (AHS) support that reports additional details of the network adapters. Removing the Intel CIM provider will not affect the functionality of the VMware ESXi host networking. NOTE: Products sold prior to the November 1, 2015 separation of Hewlett-Packard Company into Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and HP Inc. may have older product names and model numbers that differ from current models.
