HPE ProLiant and Synergy Gen10 servers with Intel Xeon processors may reboot randomly. After the reboot event has completed, the Integrated Management Log (IML) will display: Unexpected Shutdown and Restart - An undetermined error type resulted in a reboot of the server. ACTION: If issue persists, contact HPE service. An Uncorrectable Machine Check Error MAY also be logged; however, this does not typically occur. No other errors are usually logged at the same time. This condition is not HPE-specific, though the error messages are HPE-specific.
Any HPE ProLiant Gen10 or Synergy Gen10 servers configured with Intel Xeon processors.
Updating to System ROM Version 2.30 (or later) will prevent certain causes of this behavior. Follow the steps from the example below to obtain the latest system ROM: In addition, configuring to either the " High Performance Compute" or "Virtualization - Max Performance " workload profiles help mitigate this behavior. If the behavior continues after updating to System ROM 2.30 (or later), additional firmware and driver updates may be needed. This can be performed using the latest Service Pack for ProLiant or Synergy Release Set. To download System ROM Version 2.30 (or later), perform the following steps: Click the following link: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center Enter a product name (e.g., "DL380 Gen10 SPP or HPE Synergy 480 Gen10") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display. From the Suggested Products list displayed, identify the desired product and select it. The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the selected product. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page: For further filtering if needed - Select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment. Locate and select the System ROM Version 2.30 (or later). click the Revision History tab to locate the latest version. For more important information, review the Release Notes tab. Click the Download button.
