Description:

Info

HPE 800w Titanium power supplies Model# HSTNS-PD44 with Firmware version 1.01 (or earlier) configured on HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers, may intermittently fail to power on during a cold boot. This issue will only occur from Aux (standby) to Main power transition or when the system is cold booted. This failure mechanism affects the Aux power rail and will therefore not leave a specific fault update in the Integrated Management Log (IML) or HPE Active Health System (AHS) file. When failed, the failure can be characterized by no LED Function or operation, no Standby or LED - power button light, or no LED functionality on the system board except for the green light on the power supplies.

Scope

Any HPE 800W Flex Slot Titanium Hot Plug Power Supply Kit with the following information: Regulatory Module # HSTNS-PD44 P/N: 734870-101 GPN: 734868-001 Ref No. DPS-800AB-10A SPN: 754378-001 Firmware Version: 1.01

Resolution

To recover the server, remove the power cord from the installed supplies, wait 5-7 seconds and then reattach the power cord. Allow the system to power-cycle. To prevent this issue from occurring, upgrade the 800w Titanium power supply firmware to version 1.02 (or later) by performing the following actions: Proceed with a firmware power supply verification process, by performing the following steps: Use the iLO4 interface (Gen9 platform) to verify the firmware on any 800W Titanium power supplies installed in a server configuration. Note: iLO4 must be at firmware version 2.55 (or later) in order to update the power supply firmware. Check the system information page for the power supply and verify the firmware currently installed, by performing these steps: Log into iLO select "System Information select "Power". Download and upgrade from 800w Titanium power supply firmware version 1.01 (or earlier) to firmware version 1.02 (or later); available at the following URL: https://downloads.hpe.com/pub/softlib2/software1/publishablefirmware-generic/p1519006989/v159022/01_800_3F52_out.HPb To upgrade the power supply firmware, use the iLO4 Firmware Update page within the iLO4 GUI. Important Information: Systems with a single power supply will require a cold boot, or power cycle, in order for the firmware update to take effect. Systems with redundant power supplies will not require a cold boot for the firmware update to take effect.
