HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage arrays using Fibre Channel (FC) connections may not generate an alert if the TX power on the small form-factor pluggable (SFP) drops below the Warning or Alert level. If the TX power drops below 125 uW, the SFP may suffer from slow or intermittent connections on the array. If it is in this state of low TX Power, it may not be able to provide connection to the host SAN and may result in data becoming unavailable.
All HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage arrays using FC connections to a SAN fabric are affected by this issue.
If the SFP is suspected of having low power due to these symptoms, HPE recommends using the HPE 3PAR StoreServ CLI command showport -sfp -ddm, and check the value of the TX Power on all SFPs. If the (*) is displayed next to the TX Power number, it indicates that limit has been exceeded and the part should be replaced per the following example. SS20000 cli% showport -sfp -ddm --------------Port 0:0:1 DDM-------------- -Warning- --Alarm-- --Type-- Units Reading Low High Low High Temp C 41 0 70 -5 75 Voltage mV 3425 3100 3500 3000 3600 TX Bias mA 7 2 11 1 12 TX Power uW 123 158* 794 125* 1000 RX Power uW 502 15 1000 10 1258 The following table indicates good output. The (*) is not displayed next to the TX Power number; and, therefore, the part does not need to be replaced. SS20000 cli% showport -sfp -ddm --------------Port 0:0:1 DDM-------------- -Warning- --Alarm-- --Type-- Units Reading Low High Low High Temp C 41 0 70 -5 75 Voltage mV 3425 3100 3500 3000 3600 TX Bias mA 7 2 11 1 12 TX Power uW 542 158 794 125 1000 RX Power uW 502 15 1000 10 1258 RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
