Document Version Release Date Details 4 September 17, 2021 Updated information to add a note about how to recover from a brownout 3 August 13, 2020 Updated document with Gen9 platforms 2 February 24, 2020 Updated Description section and Resolution section with additional details. 1 May 16, 2019 Original document release On an HPE ProLiant DL20, ProLiant ML30 or ProLiant ML110 Gen9/Gen10 server, after an AC power lost event occurs when the system power is on, there may be Server Critical Failure error messages recorded in the Integrated Management Log (IML)and the system may NOT power on with the Health LED flashing red due to the server critical event. Note that the Power resume setting in the RBSU is NOT effective, so the system will stay in a DC-off state when the issue takes place. This error may occur when the AC power is lost and recovered during a very short time (less than 1 to 2 seconds), for example after an unexpected electricity power outage or when the AC power cord is removed from the machine and restored in a short time. For HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9/Gen10 and ProLiant ML30 Gen9/Gen10 servers: Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, Power Supply, Power Supply 1 (01h)) Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, System Board, P12V Main/AUX Regulators (04h)) For the HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9/Gen10 server: Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, Power Supply, Power Supply 1 (01h)) Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, System Board, P5V/P3V3/Chipset/AUX Regulators (40h)) Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Runtime Fault, System Board, P5V/P3V3/Chipset/AUX Regulators (10h)) Note: If the AC power lost while the system power is off, the issue does NOT take place.

Scope

Any of the following HPE ProLiant Gen9/Gen10 servers: HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9/Gen10 server configured with ATX (non-redundant) PSU HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9/Gen10 server configured with ATX (non-redundant) PSU (Power Supply Unit) HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9/Gen10 server configured with ATX (non-redundant) PSU

Resolution

If the system does not power on and the Health LED is flashing red, take the step below to recover the system: Option 1 1) Remove the AC power cord for 10 seconds and then reconnect it. 2) Power on the system if the Health LED shows solid green. 3) The issue can be safely ignored if the system is back to functioning normally. Option 2 Physically press the power button to recover the system from a brownout. This is working as designed and there is no actual PSU or system board failure. Do NOT replace any hardware as long as the system has recovered after performing the above resolution steps.
