Description:

Info

On an HPE system configured with any of the network adapters listed in the Scope section below and with iSCSI Boot from SAN (BFS) in UEFI Boot Mode, Microsoft Windows Server 2016 will be installed successfully; however, the system will encounter a Windows Blue Screen after the first reboot. When this occurs, the Stop Code: "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" will be displayed: This issue occurs because the iSCSI boot process operates with drivers from WinPE setup; however, the WinPE INF is intended for client install only. When it is installed on a server, the driver is not recognized and does not load.

Scope

Any HPE system configured for iSCSI BFS in UEFI Boot Mode and with any the following network adapters: HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 361i network Adapter HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T I350-T4 Adapter HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T I350-T4 OCP3 Adapter Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Resolution

This is a known issue with the Microsoft Windows Server 2016 inbox driver. As a workaround to prevent encountering a Windows Blue screen, upon first reboot, inject the Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows Server 2016 during iSCSI installation.
