Description:

Info

On an HPE system running Linux configured with any Marvell(Qlogic) E4 adapters, failover may not succeed after port reactive with RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) bonding mode 1(Active-Backup) configuration on Linux as shown below: Run perftest and do a failover test with RoCE bonding mode 1(Active-Backup) configuration under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. Wait five minutes, unplug the cable from port1 -> perftest is still running and the traffic moved to port2 Wait five minutes, plug the cable into port1. -> The connection is down with the error message shown below: As soon as link up occurs, the transmitter begins to make use of the returned port. However, DCBx negotiation may have not completed yet; therefore, some RoCE traffic is being sent on the port before PFC is in place, leading to drops and QP errors. Once DCBx is successfully negotiated, no more drops occur, and applications can start/continue successfully.

Scope

Any HPE system running Linux configured with any Marvell(Qlogic) E4 adapters supporting RoCE and using fastlinq driver may failed with this configuration. Affected adapters (not limited to the below adapters any Marvell(Qlogic) E4 adapters supporting RoCE are affected): HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port SFP+ QL41132HLCU Adapter HE Ethernet 10Gb 4-port SFP+ QL41134HLCU Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port SFP+ QL41132HQCU OCP3 Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port BaseT QL41132HLRJ Adapter HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port BaseT QL41132HQRJ OCP3 Adapter HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 QL41232HQCU OCP3 Adapter HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 QL41222HLCU Adapter

Resolution

Bonding considerations for RDMA applications is not yet a feature on Marvell adapters. HPE recommends using Mellanox adapters supporting RoCE functionality; for example, the HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 MCX512F-ACHT Adapter.
