Info

IMPORTANT: The information and actions described in the Resolution section below are required to prevent potential data loss on certain HPE Solid State Drives updating to HPG5 firmware version. HPE strongly recommends performing these actions at the customer's earliest opportunity. Neglecting to perform the recommended resolution could result in potential data loss. Any of the HPE Solid State Drive (SSD) models listed in the Scope section below may fail during a firmware update (HPG5 firmware download process) in either of the following circumstances: The media wear indicator is more than 85% life remaining when the SSD is updated to firmware version HPG5, but the SSD is not power cycled prior to the media wear indicator reaching 85% life remaining. Failure to power cycle the server or enclosure in which the SSD is installed will cause the drive to fail if the life remaining reaches 85% (or less). OR The media wear indicator is less than 85% life remaining when the SSD is updated to firmware version HPG5. The drive will experience a Smart trip and fail in conjunction with this firmware update when the life remaining is less than 85%.

Resolution

Important Information: Since HPG5 firmware for this drive family does not contain any critical fixes, HPE does not recommend installing the HPG5 firmware and instead HPE recommends installing HPG6 firmware (or later) available at the following URLs: Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for Windows (x64) Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for Linux (x64) Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for VMware ESXi HPG5 firmware component has been removed from HPESC. HPG5 firmware is still contained in some Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) versions, but HPE does not recommend its installation. HPG5 is contained in the following bundles: Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2019.12.0 Gen10 Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2020.03.0 VMware ESXi 7.0 Upgrade Pack (VUP) Version 1.0 and Version 1.1. If the affected HPE Solid State Drive models have already been updated to the HPG5 firmware version, ensure the server is power cycled prior to reaching 85% life remaining of the drive. Failure to power cycle will cause the drive to fail if the life remaining reaches 85% (or less). Note: If the HPE Solid State Drive model fails due to this issue, proceed with a replacement under warranty.
