Info

Document Version Release Date Details 2 March 12, 2024 Resolution section has been updated with a new fix. 1 August 10, 2020 Original Document Release. Any HPE ProLiant Server Blade or HPE Synergy Compute Module configured with any of the HPE network adapters listed in the Scope section below may power on unexpectedly when Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is enabled in the network adapter BIOS. This causes the server to power on unexpectedly after being powered off. The condition is experienced due to an identified issue in the firmware that occurs when the server power state transitions (booting) from standby power to main power, causing the network adapter firmware to inadvertently enable the hardware for magic packet matching; however, the MAC address match registers are not initialized properly with the MAC address of the network adapter port and are left in a default state of all zeroes. When a TCP packet is received from the link partner that contains a data pattern identical to a magic packet for Wake-on-LAN (WoL) targeting MAC address 00:00:00:00:00, the Wake-on-LAN (WoL) feature will be active, causing the server to power back on unexpectedly after being powered off.

Scope
