Description:

Info

On HPE ProLiant Gen8 servers, the memory error associated with memory channel reporting in the Integrated Management Log (IML) or other reporting sources such as during Power-On Self-Test (POST), may display the memory channel number incorrectly. For example, the BIOS may report an error for a memory module installed in channel 2, but the error may actually be on the module installed in channel number 1. Below is an example of a memory error reported in the Integrated Management Log (IML) for a ProLiant SL4540 Gen8 server: Critical,32,112,0x000A,POSTMessage,,,07/23/2020 19:43:11,31: POST Error: 283-Memory Address/Command ParityError Detected - Processor 2, Channel 4. Action: Reseat the DIMMs. If the issue persists, contact HP service. The error message above shows that the Memory Address/Command Parity Error Detected is on Processor 2, Channel 4. This is incorrect. The channel number should be Channel 3.

Scope

Any ProLiant Gen8 server.

Resolution

For ProLiant Gen8 servers, to identify the actual defective memory module, refer to Memory Channel reporting as Channel n-1. For example, if error reporting is in Channel 3, use Channel 3-1 (Channel 2) to identify the actual defective memory module in the channel: RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
