Advisory: Linux - Pensando Linux Firmware Upgrade Does Not Complete When Multiple Pensando Distributed Services Platform Cards Are Installed

When multiple Pensando Distributed Services Platform cards are installed in the server, iommu is by default disabled in Linux; therefore, the Pensando Distributed Services Platform Adapters Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux will not complete. When this occurs, one Pensando Distributed Services Platform card firmware will upgrade as expected however, for any additional cards, the firmware will not be updated and an installation failure error messages will be displayed in the log.

Scope

Any HPE system attempting to run the Pensando Distributed Services Platform Adapters Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux when configured with multiple of the following cards: Pensando Distributed Services Platform DSC-100 100Gb 2-port QSFP28 Card Pensando Distributed Services Platform DSC-25 10/25Gb 2-port OCP3 Card Pensando Distributed Services Platform DSC-25 Enterprise 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 Card

Resolution

As a workaround, for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, add iommu=on into the grub config and reboot. The iommu module will be enabled in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. The Pensando Distributed Services Platform Adapters Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux will upgrade multiple Pensando Distributed Services Platform cards. This is targeted to be resolved in a future version of the Pensando Distributed Services Platform Adapters Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux. This advisory will be updated when additional information is available. Note : HPE does not recommend downgrading the firmware on the Pensando Distributed Services Platform cards.
