Drives that encounter this issue will return the sense code, KCQ 01:5D:28 or 01:5D:29 (CONTROLLER IMPENDING FAILURE) about the time of the predictive failure during operation. Resolution
For RM5 drives that have not encountered the predictive failure issue, HPE strongly recommends updating to firmware version HPD7 to prevent potential errors or predictive failure from occurring. Use the following links to download the critical fixes: Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for Linux (x64) Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for Windows (x64) Online HDD/SSD Flash Component for VMware ESXi Firmware HPD7 can repair and prevent the issue occurrence. However, a firmware update may not eliminate all issue occurrences. If a predictive failure warning continues to appear, then the disk needs to be replaced.
