Description:

Info

Starting with HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0, the Chassis World Wide Name (WWN) is used to manage switches within the fabric. Prior to HPE B-series Fabric OS (FOS) v8.2.2d, embedded switches will report their"Chassis WWN" as "00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00". HPE SANnav will not recognize switches that do not report a valid Chassis WWN, and communication between the switch and the HPE SANnav server will discontinue. The switch will become unreachable or get an error in the HPE SANnav server as shown here:

Scope

This document applies to HPE SANnav Management Software with the following embedded switch models that are running firmware versions earlier than HPE B-Series Fabric OS 8.2.2d: Brocade 8Gb SAN Switch for HPE BladeSystem c-Class Brocade 16Gb SAN Switch for HPE BladeSystem c-Class Brocade 16Gb Fibre Channel SAN Switch for HPE Synergy Brocade 32Gb Fibre Channel SAN Switch for HPE Synergy

Resolution

To correct this issue, use one of the following options: Prior to upgrading the HPE SANnav Management Portal from version 2.1.x to version 2.2.0, or prior to a new installation of HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0, upgrade all switches to HPE B-series FOS v8.2.2d or later. NOTE : HPE B-series FOS v7.4.2h2 can be obtained via an HPE Support request for platforms that are not able to upgrade to HPE B-series Fabric OS version 8.x or later. Continue to manage fabrics that contain embedded switches with firmware earlier than HPE B-series FOS v8.2.2d using HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.1.1x and wait for HPE SANnav 2.2.1, which will contain a fully integrated fix for this issue, when it becomes available. Employ the workaround. Customers that are unable to upgrade their HPE B-series Fabric OS versions on embedded switches or cannot wait for HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.1 or later should employ the workaround with HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0. Workaround Customers running HPE SANnav Management Portal 2.1.1x that are planning to upgrade to HPE SANnav Management Portal 2.2.0: NOTE : Prior to an upgrade to HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0, follow the steps below. Delete any fabrics discovered by HPE SANnav that include embedded switches operating with HPE B-series Fabric OS version earlier than FOS v8.2.2d. Fabrics that do not include embedded switches do not need to be deleted. Fabrics that contain embedded switches all operating at version FOS v8.2.2d or later do not need to be deleted. Perform the upgrade to HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0 from the existing 2.1.1x version. Following the successful upgrade to version 2.2.0, apply the workaround patch: HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0.1 or later, which is available on the Broadcom Assist Portal. After application of the patch, a rediscovery of the fabrics previously deleted in step 1, above, will be required. This will avoid any manageability issues with embedded switches going forward. If you have already migrated to HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0 or performed a new install of HPE SANnav version 2.2.0 and are experiencing the above symptoms on embedded switches, then application of the following workaround will be required. If any discovered fabrics contain embedded switches are operating with a HPE B-series Fabric OS version earlier than FOS v8.2.2d, then all fabrics that have been discovered need to be deleted, including fabrics that do not contain any embedded switches. IMPORTANT : Deletion of a fabric results in all collected data for that fabric to be removed: events, historical data, performance, and other metrics. Prior to deleting a fabric, export the performance data and events using reports to avoid losing data (refer to the HPE SANnav Management Portal User Guide for details). Apply the workaround patch: HPE SANnav Management Portal version 2.2.0.1 or later. After application of the patch, a rediscovery of the fabrics previously deleted in step 1, above, will be required. This will avoid any manageability issues with embedded switches going forward.
