Info

Hewlett Packard Enterprise announces the End of Life (EOL) for certain HPE Primera and HPE Alletra 9000 Storage disk drive models that start with "AEPC". These models will be discontinued effective August 31, 2022. Spare part numbers for the discontinued drives are transitioning to alternate drive models and spare part numbers listed in Table 1. This document outlines how to prepare for this transition. A transition period, extending up to August 31, 2022, is provided to prepare HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 arrays to accept the new alternate replacement drive models. To prepare for this transition, perform the following steps: Identify all HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 arrays with one or more EOL drives installed by using the HPE Data Services Cloud Console (DSCC), the HPE Primera 600 or HPE Alletra 9000 user interface, or the following HPE Primera 600 or HPE Alletra 9000 CLI command: cli% showpd -i -p -devid AEPC3840P5xnNTLC,AEPC7680P5xnNTLC,AEPC15T4P5xnNTLC,AEPC1920P5xnNTLC,AEPC1920P5xnFTLC,AEPC3840P5xnFTLC,AEPC7680P5xnFTLC,AEPC15T4P5xnFTLC For each array with one or more drives installed, refer to Table 2 for a list of required actions based on the current HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 OS version of the array. If needed, based on Table 2, plan and schedule the installation of the appropriate patch and/or the HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 OS update. After the transition period has elapsed, failed drives will be replaced with the newer equivalent alternate drive model as shown in Table 1. INPORTANT : If the array is not at the necessary OS or update level shown to accept the alternate replacement (refer to Table 2), the OS or update must be installed prior to the drive replacement . This can lead to a delay in replacing a failed drive on the array and potentially, if multiple drives fail, to data unavailability. If the array requires an update, a plan should be in place to update the array to the appropriate HPE Primera 600 or HPE Alletra 9000 OS update prior to August 31, 2022. IMPORTANT : Beginning August 31, 2022, availability of the original spare part numbers cannot be guaranteed. With a failed drive, an OS update of the HPE Primera 600 or HPE Alletra 9000 array can only proceed in an offline manner. HPE strongly recommends that HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 arrays be proactively updated prior to August 31, 2022, to accept the alternate replacement drive models. HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 systems support the option of customers performing OS updates on their own via the user interface. For systems that have Infosight enabled, any required updates for your system are shown in the Software Recommendations in HPE Infosight, as well as in the HPE Primera 600 and HPE Alletra 9000 user interface. Any updates are available to customers with a valid support contract in My HPE Software Center or in the HPE Support Center portal.
