The iLO 5 Channel Interface driver does not install when launching HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM) 8.9 (or later) in Windows 10 bare-metal installations. A manual installation after extraction from the HPE Synergy Service Pack (SSP) is required. This will not occur if a previous version of HPSUM has run on a Windows 10 bare-metal installation. When this occurs the following Installation of iLO Channel Interface Driver failed message will be displayed:
Any HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 or HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen10 Server Blade running Windows 10 in a bare-metal configuration.
As a workaround, manually extract the iLO 5 Channel Interface driver from the HPE Synergy Service Pack . After the installation is completed proceed with updating the server using HPSUM by performing the following: Mount Synergy SSP in Windows 10 and open in file explorer. Double click contents.html document. Search Document for "iLO Channel Interface Driver for Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and 2019:" Determine name of package i.e. CPXXXXX.exe: Go back to File Explorer and open packages folder. Use search bar to locate package previously identified. Double-click and follow prompts to install: After installation is complete, run HPSUM again.
