A black screen will display when attempting to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3 on the HPE Edgeline e920, e920d or e920t Server Blades or HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 Plus, configured with NVIDIA A2 GPU Accelerator, NVIDIA A40 48GB PCIe Graphics Accelerator for HPE, NVIDIA A100 80GB PCIe Graphics Accelerator for HPE or NVIDIA L4 24GB PCie Graphics Accelerator, and the installation will stop. This black screen appears immediately without any warning or error messages after selecting "Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3."
Any HPE Edgeline e920, e920d and e920t Server Blade or HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 Plus, configured with NVIDIA A2 GPU Accelerator, NVIDIA A40 48GB PCIe Graphics Accelerator for HPE, NVIDIA A100 80GB PCIe Graphics Accelerator for HPE or NVIDIA L4 24GB PCie Graphics Accelerator. Note : This issue does not occur if the NVIDIA GPU is not installed on the server.
As a workaround, power the server off and back on (power cycle). Then re-install Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3 in GUI mode by performing the steps below: 1. Select either of the following options to begin: Stop the installation at the GNU Grand Unified Bootloader (GRUB) menu. OR When booting from the install media, select the "Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3" to highlight it. Press "e" to edit the Linuxefi boot parameters, as shown below: 2. Before or after the word, "quiet," a word must be typed depending upon the accelator card: For NVIDIA A40 PCIe Graphics Accelerator or NVIDIA A100 80GB PCIe Graphics Accelerator, type "modprobe.blacklist=nouveau\u_" as shown below: For NVIDIA A2 GPU Accelerator, type "nomodeset" as shown below: 3. Press Ctrl+X or F10 to boot to the operating system installation with the new parameter.
