HPE M-Series switches running ONYX-3.10.3004 with 10GbE RJ45 transceivers (R0R41B) or 1GbE RJ45 transceivers (JD089B, 453154-B21), with the default FEC "auto" setting configured, will experience an internal error when attempting to query the status of a port. NOTE : This issue is seen with or without the "json-print" qualifier at the end of the command. Examples: (config) # show interfaces ethernet 1/41 | json-print % An internal error occurred. (config) # show interfaces ethernet 1/41 % An internal error occurred . Specific error messages will be generated in the switch log that display the source of the error. Example of the log file entry: sdkd[11736]: TID 139905798305536: [sdkd.ERR]: SDK LOG MESSAGE: [PORT][phy mode get for port 0x1000d failed (err:unsupported for twisted pair connectors). ] issd[11757]: TID 140585853650688: [issd.ERR]: NPAPI_ERR: err FsCfaHwGetInterfaceFec Failed to get fec for iss index [353], SDK error is [34, Operation Unsupported] The ISS index shown above (in this case, [353]) is dependent upon the switch port.

Before or after upgrading to ONYX-3.10.3004, users are asked to disable the FEC "auto" setting on ports that have 10Gbe RJ45 transceivers (R0R41B) or 1GbE RJ45 transceivers (JD089B, 453154-B21), using the following commands: NOTE : Changing the setting will cause the port to bounce; therefore a maintenance window is recommended. (config) # no interface ethernet 1/41 fec-override no-fec force # A contiguous range of ports may be specified (config) # write mem Run the "show interfaces" command, shown below, to confirm that "no-fec" is set correctly on all switch ports that contain the specified RJ45 transceivers: (config) # show interfaces ethernet 1/41 Eth1/41: Admin state: Enabled Operational state: Up Last change in operational status: 0:00:06 ago (9 oper change) Boot delay time: 0 sec Description: N/A Mac address: b8:59:9f:6a:06:0c MTU : 9216 bytes (Maximum packet size 9238 bytes) Fec: no-fec #instead of 'auto' Operational Fec: no-fec RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
