On the following HPE Smart Array Gen8, Gen9, SR Gen10, and SR Gen10 Plus Controllers configured on SSD drives, an "Inconsistent Stripe" may occur for a RAID 1 or RAID 10 logical drive after an ungraceful shutdown. This issue occurs because storage controller SmartPath is enabled by default when the RAID volume is created on SSD drives. SmartPath is enabled to achieve maximum performance on SSD drives. In this configuration, controller cache is disabled. If the system is shut down ungracefully, then data may not be written on one of the member drives in RAID 1 and RAID 10. When this issue occurs on systems running Microsoft Windows, if the HPE Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service is loaded, and the event notification is enabled, this may be reported in the Windows System Event logs after the surface scan detects this condition. IMPORTANT : Inappropriate actions such as an improper shutdown may result in data loss. NOTE : In the case of RAID 5, 6, 50, or 60, the data may be regenerated using parity, or parity will be generated from the data.
All Smart Array Gen8, Gen9, SR Gen10, and SR Gen10 Plus Controllers.
The following can be completed to minimize the chance of an Inconsistent Stripe: Install an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and do not shut down ungracefully. Disable SmartPath and enable write cache on the logical drive. See the HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide for more details on how to disable Smartpath and enable Controller write cache.
