The HPE Integrated Lights-Out 6 (iLO 6) provides the ability to configure different thermal cooling profiles including Optimal Cooling, Enhanced CPU Cooling, Increased Cooling, and Maximum Cooling modes. This advisory applies to servers which are configured to use Enhanced CPU cooling or Increased Cooling modes. When servers operate under one of these two cooling profiles, some sensor setpoint values for the fan algorithm is lower than the target threshold, causing system fans to rotate faster than expected and consume more power.
Scope
Any HPE systems with iLO 6 firmware v1.10 or v1.20.
Resolution
As a workaround, configure the thermal cooling profile for the server to use a mode other than Enhanced CPU cooling or Increased Cooling mode. To resolve this issue, update to iLO 6 firmware v1.30 (or later). To download the iLO 6 firmware v1.30 (or later), perform the following steps: Click the following link: http://www.hpe.com/support/ilo5 The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the iLO 6. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page: o For further filtering if needed - Select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment. Locate and select the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 6 v1.30 firmware. Click the Revision History tab to locate the latest version. For more important information, review the Release Notes tab.
