When a replacement drive backplane is installed in any of the servers mentioned in the Hardware Platforms Affected section below, the following may occur: Drive will not be detected. OR Drive may be recognized, but will show as NON-Authentic when it was Authentic before the part replacement. IML Event example: Slot X Smart Array - Drive could not be authenticated as genuine drive. Smart Array will not control the LEDs: Port X Box Y Bay Z OR Drives may be difficult to fully seat all the way or latch into the drive bays. This occurs because the smart carrier backplane may come with covers over the pins, as shown in the following picture:

Scope

Any of the HPE server platforms mentioned in the Hardware Platforms Affected section below, configured with any of the Smart Carrier backplanes.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, remove the plastic cover from the smart carrier pins next to each drive socket on the backplane prior to installing the backplane.
