Description:

Info

To maintain continuity of supply of HPE M-series switches, hardware changes were required which have software minimum revision dependencies. The impact is that SN4600cM hardware revision C1 has a new minimum software revision. The ONYX-based SN4600cM switch Part No. R6R24A hardware revision C1 cannot be downgraded below the minimum ONYX-3.10.4006 revision, while the SN4600cM ONIE switch Part No. R6R26A hardware revision C1 cannot be downgraded below the minimum Cumulus-linux-5.3.0 revision. Change Notification 1: The SN4600cM/Spectrum-3 PCIe PLL Dynamic Calibration hardware revision C1 cannot be downgraded below the minimum revision ONYX-3.10.4006, which is factory installed, and Cumulus-linux-5.3.0, which may be installed on a revision C1 switch with ONIE revision 5.3.0008 and later revisions. SN4600cM hardware revision B1 and earlier maintain downgrade support for qualified ONYX revisions as documented in HPE M-series SPOCK. The SN4600cM switch hardware revision is printed on the shipping box label and the switch inventory pull tab. The hardware revision may also be electronically viewed using the ONYX CLI show inventory or ONYX WebUI System\Inventory tab on the ONYX-based SN4600cM switch Part No. R6R24A. R6R24A SN4600cM CLI example to display the Part Number and hardware revision which has ONYX-3.10.4006 downgrade restrictions: R6R24A SN4600cM WebUI example to display the part number and hardware revision which has no downgrade restriction: Downgrading M-series switches below the recommended ONYX-3.10.4006 results in errors in the switch log: Cumulus 5.4.0 and earlier do not provide a means to electronically view the switch hardware revision of the SN4600cM ONIE switch Part No. R6R26A. However, the ONIE revision 5.3.0008 and later revisions are an indication of the Cumulus 5.3.0 minimum revision dependency. HPE SN4600cM 100GbE 64QSFP28 ONIE Power to Connector Airflow Switch [R6R26A]: ONIE 5.3.0008 with firmware version 30.2010.4008 (or later) Cumulus 5.3.0 with firmware version 30.2010.4026,(or later) Example: Cumulus CLI “sudo decode-syseeprom” enables checking the ONIE revision . Example of errors in Cumulus: The observable issues occur during the boot sequence. Down revision Cumulus installed successfully, and links are up. All hardware elements are recognized; however, platform recognition fails. An additional issue is observed with Cumulus 5.1.0 which is not observed with Cumulus 5.3.0 with Temp4 (Port Ambient Sensor): BAD.

Scope

The following HPE M-Series ONYX and ONIE switches are affected by this issue: Hardware Revision C1 minimum qualified revision ONYX-3.10.4006 HPE SN4600cM 100GbE 64QSFP28 Power to Connector Airflow Switch [R6R24A] Hardware Revision C1 minimum qualified revision ONIE 5.3.0008 and Cumulus 5.3.0 HPE SN4600cM 100GbE 64QSFP28 ONIE Power to Connector Airflow Switch {R6R26A]

Resolution

Obtain the switch chassis part number and hardware revision or ONIE revision, and determine if the switch cannot be downgraded below ONYX-3.10.4006 or Cumulus-Linux 5.3.0. Upgrade to ONYX 3.10.4100 or later revision or install Cumulus-Linux 5.3.0 or later revision. The ONYX-based SN4600cM switch Part No. R6R24A, which out of the factory box has ONYX-3.10.4006 installed, may not be downgradable if it is also hardware revision C1. The SN4600cM ONIE switch Part No. R6R26A, which out of the factory box has ONIE 5.3.0008 or later revision installed, may not be downgradable if it is also hardware revision C1.
