Document Version Release Date Details 5 March 22, 2024 Edited Notes in the Description and Resolution sections and revised the PSOC firmware links in the Resolution section. 4 October 13, 2023 In the Resolution section, the PSOC firmware URLs were replaced with a newer version which implements a new mechanism to auto AUX power cycle the server, and steps 5 and 6 were revised, eliminating the need to remove the AC power cord. 3 July 25, 2023 The URL for PSOC Firmware Flash ESXi v1.0.0.0 was replaced with the URL for v1.0.0.2 to support ESXi8.0 and also support (vSphere Installation Bundle) vib signing in the Resolution section and added two StoreEasy products at the bottom of the list in the Scope section. 2 June 2, 2023 The Resolution section was updated to revise the recovery “Steps” section and added a “Note” regarding information reported by the PSoC Firmware Smart Component. 1 May 10, 2023 Original Document Release. IMPORTANT : HPE strongly recommends performing this upgrade at the customer's earliest opportunity. Neglecting to perform the recommended resolution could result in potential subsequent errors and potential data inconsistency. Note : The PSOC firmware is already in 0x1e with PSOC hardware version 0x07, the PSOC firmware does not require updating again. Any HPE Gen10 or Gen10 plus platform configured with an HPE MR416i-a Gen10 Plus Controller may report the following error message during POST after an unexpected shutdown. When this issue occurs, one or more of the following messages will be displayed during POST and logged in the Integrated Management Log (IML). However, on the next reboot, the HPE MR P416i-a Gen10 Plus Controller may not be detected: Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Power On Fault, Flexible Smart Array, ROC 1 Extended (85h)) ACTION: Gather Active Health System logs and create a support case. Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Power On Fault Flexible Smart Array, ROC 1 (04h)) ACTION: Gather Active Health System logs and create a support case. Server Critical Fault (Service Information: Power On Fault Flexible Smart Array, ROC 1 (04h), ROC 1 Extended (85h)) ACTION: Gather Active Health System logs and create a support case. Power Fault Detected - Embedded Storage Controller 1. ACTION: Re-seat storage controller if removable. Otherwise, contact HPE service. Slot XX Storage - Controller write cache data has been lost ACTION: 1. No action is required if unprotected write back enabled 2. Check for loose energy pack and controller backup power cable 3. Replace energy pack if failed 4. Update the controller firmware 5. Restore data from backup

Scope

Any HPE MR416i-a Gen10 Plus x16 Lanes 4GB Cache NVMe/SAS 12G Controller (P26279-B21) with Programmable System on Chip (PSOC) hardware version 0x7 (decimal 7) and firmware version 0x1d (decimal 29) or earlier. Note : The following HPE ProLiant and HPE StoreEasy servers support this controller: HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10 Plus server HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus server v2 HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus server HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 Plus server HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 server HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus server HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus server HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus server v2 HPE StoreEasy 1660 32TB SAS Storage with Microsoft Windows Server IoT 2019 HPE StoreEasy 1660 Storage with Microsoft Windows Server IoT 2019 HPE StoreEasy 1660 64TB SAS Storage with Microsoft Windows Server IoT 2019 HPE StoreEasy 1860 Performance Storage with Microsoft Windows Server IoT 2019

Resolution

Download and install the HPE MR416i-a Gen10 Plus controller PSOC firmware from the following URLs to prevent this issue: PSOC Firmware Flash for Windows - HPE MR216i-a and MR416i-a Gen10 Plus Tri Mode Controllers version 3.0.0.0 (or later) PSOC Firmware Flash for Linux(x64) - HPE MR216i-a and MR416i-a Gen10 Plus Tri Mode Controllers version 3.0.0.0 (or later) PSOC Firmware Flash for ESXi7.0 and 8.0 - HPE MR216i-a and MR416i-a Gen10 Plus Tri Mode Controllers version 3.0.0.0 (or later) Steps : If this issue has already occurred, and the MR Controller is not detected, perform the following steps to recover the MR Controller. If the controller is detected, skip steps 1 and 2. Remove the AC power cords and wait 10 seconds. Plug the AC power cords back in and power up the server to recover the MR controller. Perform the following steps to prevent this issue from occurring: Download and run the Smart Components from the above URL to update the PSOC firmware. Gracefully shut down the server from the Operating System. Smart Components from the above URL will auto AUX power cycle the server. Wait for one (1) minute and power up the server again to activate the new PSOC firmware. Run the Smart Components again to make sure the PSOC firmware version is 0x1e (i.e., decimal 30). NOTES : The Smart Component displays “PSOC Hardware version and PSOC Firmware version.” PSOC Firmware version : 0x1d (or earlier) PSOC Hardware version : 0x7 The Smart Component displays “PSOC firmware is already up to date” if the PSOC firmware is already in 0x1e with PSOC hardware version 0x07 after the PSOC firmware update.
