Document Version Release Date Details 2 October 20, 2023 Updated the Resolution with the permanent fix, firmware version 1.2.14.1012. 1 May 11, 2023 Original Document Release. HPE NS204i-d Gen11 Boot Controller firmware version 1.2.14.1004 may not update to version 1.2.14.1009. When performing a firmware update from HPE Synergy Service Pack (SPP) 2023.05.01 through the HPE OneView server profile, the following error message may appear: "The firmware update operation was unable to update the following components on server <server profile id>, bay X. Locked <firmware package version> Resolution: Cold boot the server and perform the firmware update again. If the problem persists, contact your authorized support representative and OneView support dump and the AHS logs from the iLO." This issue can also occur on Gen11 systems when OneView flashes the NS204i firmware after the Server Platform Services (SPS) firmware through Integrated Lights-Out 6 (iLO 6). Note : HPE recommends using OneView as a deployment method for HPE firmware packages or smart components. This issue can also occur when performing a firmware downgrade from version 1.2.14.1009 to version 1.2.14.1004. However, HPE does not recommend downgrading components unless it is absolutely necessary.

Scope

HPE Synergy NS204i-d Gen11 NVMe Boot Storage Device in an HPE Synergy Gen11 system when HPE OneView is used to update the firmware for the NS204i-d NVMe Boot Storage Device.

Resolution

This issue is corrected by updating with firmware version 1.2.14.1012 from the Firmware Package - HPE Gen11 Boot Controller NS204i-u, NS204i-d and HPE Gen10 Plus Boot Controller NS204i-p, NS204i-d, NS204i-t, NS204i-r. This firmware package will resolve NS204i firmware update failure. As a workaround, perform the following steps: Cold boot the affected server. Wait 5 minutes after POST is completed. Re-apply the profile in OneView without selecting the force reinstallation of the firmware deployment option.
