Info

Document Version Release Date Details 4 April 9, 2024 Additional details were added to the steps in the Resolution for (2-3). 3 October 26, 2023 Updated steps in Resolution for (2-1). 2 August 21, 2023 Added Windows Server as affected. 1 August 04, 2023 Original document release. On HPE systems with Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) enabled, certain limitations may cause the Drive Locate LED to not function as follows: (1) Using Intel VROC OS tools or utilities (e.g. VROC GUI) (2) When VROC Redfish management is available. Using a RESTful Interface Tool (iLOREST) client to patching the property "LocationIndicatorActive" or using HPE Integrated Lights-Out 6 (iLO 6) web interface to locate the LED of an NVMe drive (2-1) Multipath-capable NVMe drives populated on the server running a Linux-based OS with native multipath kernel setting enabled (2-2) Certain Linux distributions that do not install ledmon (2-3) When the server is running Windows

Scope

Any HPE server with VROC enabled.

Resolution

For (1) Using Intel VROC OS tools or utilities (e.g. VROC GUI), this is unsupported to control the LED manually. For (2-1) Multipath-capable NVMe drives populated on the server running a Linux-based OS with native multipath kernel setting enabled, as a workaround, disable the native multipath using the following commands and reboot for the changes to take effect: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux #grubby --update-kernel=ALL --args="nvme_core.multipath=N" On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server #echo "options nvme_core multipath=N" > /etc/modprobe.d/50-nvme_core.conf #dracut -f For (2-2) Certain Linux distributions that do not install ledmon, as a workaround, install the tool, ledmon For (2-3) The Redfish “LocationIndicatorActive” property value will be falling back to false automatically when patch it as true. However, the drive LED will be actually controlled by the requested value. The way to make the value to be consistent with the LED behavior is to refer the section of LED Management in the Intel VROC Windows TPS to revise the iaVROC associated registry LedLocateTimeout value to zero . HKLM, System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaVROC\Parameters\Device, LedLocateTimeout, %REG_TYPE_DWORD%, 0x00000000 RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
