Under very limited conditions, any of the Intel-based servers mentioned in the Scope section below, may experience an error that results in an unexpected reset with a machine check error logged to the Integrated Management Log (IML). This issue is not unique to HPE systems.

Scope

Resolution

HPE recommends that customers update the System ROM of servers with affected processors to version 1.44 (or later). This version of the System ROM will update the internal processor firmware of each installed processor during boot. This internal processor firmware cannot be downgraded even if the System ROM is downgraded. Using processors with different versions of internal processor firmware is not supported. At the time this Advisory was published there is no chance to have mismatched revisions of the internal processor firmware using version 1.44 or later of the System ROM. When installing an additional processor or replacing a processor, it is possible that a newly installed processor could have a newer revision of the internal processor firmware than what the System ROM includes. This creates the possibility of having processors with mismatched revisions of the internal processor firmware, which is not supported. At the time when this Advisory was published, System ROM version 1.44 contains the latest version of the internal processor firmware and there is no opportunity for an internal processor firmware mismatch if using this revision of the System ROM. NOTE: The System ROM will display an informational message and log an informational entry into the Integrated Management Log (IML) if any installed processor contains a newer revision of the internal processor firmware than the System ROM contains. While this message does not indicate a functional issue or indicate that there is a mismatch in the revisions of internal processor firmware for systems with more than one processor installed, it does indicate there is a possibility for a mismatch to occur because the System ROM cannot modify the internal processor firmware for a processor with a later revision of this firmware than the System ROM contains. To download the latest System ROM , perform the following steps: 1.Click the following link: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center . 2.Enter a product name (e.g., " DL380 Gen11") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display. From the Suggested Products list displayed, identify the desired product and select it. 3.The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the selected product. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page: -Select the Software Type "BIOS" -Select the Subtype "System ROM" -For further filtering if needed select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment Type. 4.Locate and select the System ROM 1.44 (or later). Note: To ensure that you have selected the latest version of the firmware/driver, click the Revision History tab to check if a new version of the firmware/driver is available. For more important information, review the Release Notes tab. 5.Click Download.
