Info

Document Version Release Date Details 2 December 7, 2023 Added HPE Alletra Storage Server 4140 server to the Title, Scope, and Affected Products section. 1 September 8, 2023 Original Document Release. When attempting to update the HPE Gen11 NS204i-u within an HPE Alletra Storage Server 4140, 4120, or 4110 to a later version of firmware or the latest version of firmware, the update may not be successful as shown in the iLO Firmware, OS Software page or in the Active Health System (AHS) logs. This can occur if the server has Volume Management Drive (VMD) Support that is Enabled. Integrated Managemenet Log (IML) : By default, the HPE Alletra Storage Server 4140, 4120, and 4110 Storage Server BIOS is configured with the following settings: Intel PCH VMD Support > Enabled Intel VROC > Enabled This combination of settings is required for the VROC to effectively manage device hot-swap and the drive LEDs on storage devices connected to the backplane. However, enabling Volume Management Device (VMD) support has been found to interfere with the deployment of the current NS204i firmware update. To effectively run this update, set VROC and VMD options to the following: Intel PCH VMD Support > Disabled Intel VROC > Disabled Once the NS204i firmware has been deployed, both the VMD and VROC settings should be reset to "Enabled" to bring the server back to its original operational status.

Scope
