Document Version Release Date Details 2 January 9, 2024 Updated Resolution with permanent fix. 1 October 17, 2023 Original Document Release. For any compute modules configured with HPE Synergy 3820C 10/20Gb Converged Network Adapters, performing an offline firmware update for the 3820C adapter with either HPE OneView or HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM) may fail when using SSP 2023.10.01. When this issue occurs, OneView will display the following alert: "The firmware update operation was unable to update the following components on server <serial number>, <bay #>: firmware-nic-qlogic-nx2-syn-3.30.2-1.1.x86_64.rpm" Alternatively, SUM will display the following error: "Update returned an error." The firmware update fails due to an incorrect dependency with the 3820C adapter driver. Note: If the 3820C adapter is already running combo image version 7.19.14, the error message may still be reported if the "Firmware only" option with "Reinstall components" is performed through the Server Profile. Regardless of the error message, the 3820C adapter will remain with combo image version 7.19.14. SSP 2022.08.01 (or later) include combo image version 7.19.14.
Scope
In the scenario described above, any compute modules configured with HPE Synergy 3820C 10/20Gb Converged Network Adapters and using SSP 2023.10.01.
Resolution
This has been fixed with SSP 2024.01.01, available here . As a workaround, perform either of the following to update the 3820C adapter firmware: Perform an online firmware update with the SSP: In the Server Profile, select either "Firmware and Operating System (OS) Drivers using Smart Update Tools" or "Firmware only using Smart Update Tools". OR Use any of the following smart components: HPE Synergy QLogic NX2 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows Server x64 Editions HPE Synergy QLogic NX2 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux HPE Synergy QLogic NX2 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
