A drive may go offline on an HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 with the HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i controller in a RAID 1 configuration. The operating system logs will contain messages similar to the following: sd 0:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#163 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_TIMEOUT cmd_age=40s blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 2766392 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x1800 phys_seg 1 prio class 0 XFS (dm-3): xfs_do_force_shutdown(0x2) called from line 1304 of file fs/xfs/xfs_log.c. Any HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4.
This does not occur with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 running the HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i SATA RAID Controller Driver for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 Version 1.2.11 (kmod-hpdsa-101.2.11-7.rhel8u4.x86_64.rpm, kmod-hpdsa-101.2.11-7.rhel8u6.x86_64.rpm) or later.
