Info

Document Version Release Date Details 3 April 2, 2024 Added Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 (or later) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 (or later) as affected Operating Systems. 2 January 26, 2024 Added Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3 as affected Operating Systems. 1 December 15, 2023 Original Document Release. During a new installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 (or later) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 (or later), the iSCSI LUNs will not be detected at the storage selection screen. If switching to the console and performing a rescan for iSCSI LUNS, the LUNs will be detected and the installation can continue. This issue occurs on HPE Synergy Compute Modules with the adapters listed below when using hardware iSCSI boot.

Scope

Any HPE Synergy Gen10, HPE Synergy Gen10 Plus, or HPE Synergy Gen11 compute module with hardware iSCSI boot-from-SAN in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 (or later) or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 (or later) using the HPE Synergy 6820C 25/50Gb Converged Network Adapter or HPE Synergy 4820C 10/20/25Gb Converged network adapter.

Resolution

To avoid this issue or to recover after the issue has occurred, rescan for iSCSI LUNs on the console at the time of the OS installation by performing the following: In the Disk selection page, press "ctrl+alt+f2" to enter CLI mode. Login iSCSI using "iscsiadm -m fw -l". Observe that iSCSI login is successful. Press "ctrl+alt+f6" to enter GUI and go into disk selection to observe iSCSI LUNs listed. Alternatively, Red Hat Enterprise Linux will avoid the issue by adding rd.iscsi.firmware=1 to the kernel parameter.
