Description:

Info

Removing 2 member drives from a RAID 10 volume on HPE Alletra Storage and HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers running Windows Server OS with Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) 8.2 causes the RAID 10 volume status to change to degraded. When attempting to recover the volume by reinserting these 2 original removed drives, they may fail to rebuild. NOTES : The volume degraded event can be observed in the iLO Integrated Management Log (IML). Check the volume status on the iLO System Information and Storage Information page from the iLO web server. For further details about iLO, search for the HPE iLO user guide on the HPE Support Center website.

Scope

Any HPE servers running Windows Server OS with Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) 8.2 enabled.

Resolution

To avoid the RAID 10 volume rebuilding issue, reinsert each disk one at a time to rebuild the drive. This issue will be resolved in a future release of VROC. Workaround When the second drive fails to rebuild, use the VROC GUI to recover the RAID 10 volume as follows: Select Clear metadata on the drive that failed to rebuild. Select Mark as a spare to rebuild the drive.
