Description:

Info

If HPE OneView is unable to communicate with the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server configured, the following messages will display in OneView: " Unable to communicate with NTP server, <NTP Server Name> " And " HPE OneView did not receive an expected REST event notification from the server's iLO <Server Name>. It is possible that event notifications from the server are not reaching OneView, resulting in impaired monitoring and management capabilities for that server ." This can result in the following alert message: " Unable to communicate with the management processor for server hardware <Server Name> " In addition, when the NTP service is not connected, it will cause a REST event notification failure. This failure will result in the following being affected: Firmware update using Smart Update Tools (SUT) Inventory updates (CPU, memory, disks, adapters, firmware/software and others) Local storage configuration Detection of other changes such as UID LED status and power state (which can affect profile apply performance)

Scope

HPE OneView 8.50 or earlier.

Resolution

First, verify if both an NTP server communication alert message and a REST event notification failure have occurred. Determine the reason for the "Unable to communicate with the management processor for server hardware <Server Name>" alert message(s) to occur. Then, address the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server's communication by changing the NTP settings to resolve the issue. Finally, clear the alerts in OneView.
