No fixed releases provided.
On an HPE system with multiple types of MD, Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) (e.g., RAID1+RAID5), or multiple raid types, an infinite systemd loop may occur when shutting down or rebooting the system. When this occurs, the system stops and displays the following messages: This is a known upstream kernel regression . This is Linux OS-specific and not HPE-specific.
Any HPE system running the following tier-1 Linux distributions: ·Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 (or later) ·SUSE Linux Enterprise Linux 15 SP5 ·Ubuntu using HWE kernels from version 6.0 to 6.4 The commit causes the regression is merged in mainline kernel version 6.0 and the fix commit is merged in mainline kernel 6.6.
Downstream Linux distributions are in the stage of merging the upstream patch in their kernel updates. When a Linux distribution has the fix available, this advisory will be updated. This occurs due to the core Linux MD subsystem. When setting up a new MD or VROC RAID environment on the affected Linux distributions, the recommendation is, do not mix multiple types of RAIDs to avoid the infinite systemd loops. If the system is already configured, there are ready-made kernel version 6.6 packages from the Linux distributions’ upstream: Fedora , OpenSuSE and Ubuntu mainline PPA *. Upstream kernel 6.6 contains the fix to the regression. For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5, Program Temporary Fix (PTF) is available (subscription required). Alternatively, it is also an option to reconfigure the system configuration to no multiple types of RAIDs. When the permanent fix in the Linux distributions kernel updates are available, this advisory will be updated. * Downstream Linux Vendors may not provide official support to these kernels.
