Advisory: HPE Compute Scale-Up 3200 Server - Loss of Custom Boot Slots on RMC Reboot

Last update date:

1/31/2024

Affected products:

HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200

Affected releases:

No affected releases provided.

Fixed releases:

No fixed releases provided.

Description:

Info

The BIOS attributes PcieSlotOpRomA, PcieSlotOpRomB, PcieSlotOpRomC, and PcieSlotOpRomD are used to set custom boot slots on the HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200. However, whenever the RMC reboots, these attributes will be reset to default, which results in loss of custom boot slots. After the RMC reboots, the nPAR reboot or power-on will use default boot slots. The nPAR that is configured to boot from non-default boot slots will fail to boot the OS from custom boot slots. In this case, if the nPAR has no bootable devices from default boot slots, the nPAR will fail to boot the OS.

Scope

Any HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 with Complex Firmware 1.10.308 or 1.10.342.

Resolution

Use the following sequence to set and preserve custom boot slots: Set the custom boot slot via modify npar attributes PcieSlotOpRomA=<slot number> Save the BIOS attribute to the RMC persistence storage: save npar attributes file=npar0_attributes. The file name can be any legal name. Whenever the RMC reboots, login to the RMC and run CLI restore npar attributes file=npar0_attributes. This command can be run while the nPAR is powered on. With this sequence, the nPAR reboot will continue to use custom boot slots. A future version of HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3200 Firmware will correct this issue and this advisory will be updated when additional information becomes available.
