Document Version Release Date Details 2 February 27, 2024 The Resolution section has been updated with the SSP version containing the solution. 1 February 02, 2024 Original document release. For any HPE Synergy compute modules listed in the Scope section below, performing a drive firmware update may fail when using SSP 2024.01.01 (or earlier). If using the OneView Server Profile firmware update options, or manually by uploading the firmware package (FWPKG) file via the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) GUI, an installation task of the FWPKG component may enter an exception state in the iLO installation queue, as shown below. "Exception UEFI_task_Universal Firmware Package for drives - <drive model number>" "Loading firmware file <file name.fwpkg>. It might take several minutes. The file was read successfully. Cannot find the specified device." This firmware update failure occurs due to an issue to properly identify whether the drives are directly connected to the system board, or connected to an HPE Smart Array controller.

Scope

In the scenario described above, any HPE OneView version managing the following compute modules: HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Compute Module HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus Compute Module HPE Synergy 480 Gen11 Compute Module HPE Synergy 660 Gen10 Compute Module

Resolution

To avoid this issue, use SSP 2024.01.02 (or later) to perform firmware updates with HPE OneView. This version can be found at the HPE Synergy Software Releases page. If this issue has already occurred while installing the FWPKG file from the iLO repository, perform either of the following workarounds: If drives are connected to an HPE Smart Array controller Manually reboot the affected compute module. This step will clear the installation task with the exception state. OR If drives are directly connected to the system board (AHCI SATA) Delete the installation task with the exception state, and then reboot the compute module. The firmware update will be completed during the reboot. To delete the affected installation task, perform the following steps: From the iLO GUI, click Firmware & OS Software in the navigation tree, and then click Installation Queue. Click on the remove component icon. iLO will prompt to confirm the request. Select Yes. Reboot the compute module.
