Any attempts to grow a cluster with Gen11 systems when using HPE OneView for VMware vCenter (OV4VC) may fail with the error message "Server Profile Template boot mode must be set in UEFIOptimized." This can occur even with later versions of the OV4VC (e.g., version 11.4) and Gen11 servers. However, this will not affect the grow cluster operation with Gen10 Plus servers or earlier. This occurs because the UEFI Optimized boot mode is not available in Gen11 servers, and only the UEFI boot mode is available: In such a case, the Grow Cluster attempt from VMware vCenter will result in the error message shown below:
Any HPE Gen11 servers that are managed through the HPE OneView for VMware vCenter (OV4VC) 11.4 application that is used for the grow cluster operation.
This issue is fixed by updating to HPE OneView for VMware vCenter (OV4VC) 11.6.0. Workaround To deploy ESXi alone, use the OV4VC "Deployment" feature instead of grow cluster. Use the following workaround to circumvent this condition, perform the following steps: For Gen 11 servers, create server profile manually with required boot settings. Using "Deployment" option, select the server and trigger the ESXi deployment. Once the deployment is completed, add the host manually to the cluster through vCenter. Note : If inconsistencies are reported for switch configuration, contact HPE Customer Support. Use either your local country HPE Customer Support or log a case via the HPE Support Center. If further assistance is needed with this issue, the cluster will need to be imported into HPE OneView for cluster management.
