When using the drive Smart Component to upgrade drive firmware, the following error message will be displayed: Controller firmware version 03.01.26.036 is included in the Gen10 2023.09.00.04 Patch bundle SPP and Gen11 2023.10.00.03 Patch Bundle SPP. The result of the drive firmware Smart Component flash will be impacted if the controller firmware version is 03.01.26.036.
Scope
This issue affects drives with the following HPE SR Gen10 Plus controllers running firmware version 03.01.26.036: HPE SR416i-a x16 Lanes 4GB Cache NVMe/SAS 24G Controller for HPE Gen10 Plus (P12688-B21) HPE SR932i-p x32 Lanes 8GB Wide Cache NVMe/SAS 24G Controller for HPE Gen10 Plus (P04220-B21) This issue affects drives with the following HPE SR Gen11 controllers running firmware version 03.01.26.036: HPE SR416ie-m Gen11 x16 Lanes 4GB Cache SPDM Mezzanine Storage Controller (P39959-B21) HPE SR932i-p Gen11 x32 Lanes 8GB Wide Cache PCI SPDM Plug-in Storage Controller (P47184-B21) Operating systems affected: Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Microsoft Windows Server 2022 VMware ESXi 7U3 VMware ESXi 8U3 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
Resolution
To upgrade the drive firmware via the Smart Component, first downgrade HPE SR Gen10 Plus/Gen11 controller firmware to version 03.01.23.072. This issue is still under investigation.
