If a port fails on the storage system, the port fails over to the partner port when port persistence is enabled. This failover happens with minimal disruption to the host IO. The failback may see the host IO pause and cause a delay for up to 30 seconds. The problem is seen with Emulex HBAs and Qlogic HBAs installed in the host.
This has been seen with Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and 2022 but other versions may also be affected.
HPE is currently investigating this issue in conjunction with OS Vendors. As a workaround to avoid the problem, HPE recommends that the HBA values are changed to reduce the delay. EMULEX HBA: Change the NodeTimeOut values from default of 30 to 2, using the Emulex HBA Manager or the OC Manager. Refer to this document . QLOGIC HBA: Change the PortDownRetryCount value from default of 30 to 2, using a Windows Admin Center plugin or the QConvergedconsole. Refer to this document . This will reduce the host IO delay to 2 seconds. Note that this time can be set to a different value more suited to the storage environment needs. This document will be updated when more information becomes available.
