With HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode enabled and under certain conditions platform firmware (BIOS) may return a processor frequency of zero to the Linux pcc-cpufreq driver. This may cause the driver to fail to load either for all processors or for a single processor. To determine the current Linux power management driver status the command "cpupower -c all frequency-info" or the command "cpufreq-info -c all" can be executed. In both cases the output will list the currently loaded driver or indicate no driver was loaded. For example, using the "cpupower" utility to check the status of processor 0 in the case where the pcc-cpufreq driver is not loaded the output would display the following: In the case where a Linux power management driver is loaded the output would be similar to the following:

Scope

Any HP ProLiant G6, G7, Gen8, or Gen9-series server running Linux.

Resolution

Change the HP Power Regulator setting to OS Control Mode in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) as follows: During Power-On Self-Test (POST), Press F9 to Enter the ROM Based-Setup Utility (RBSU). Select the Power Management Options menu. Select HP Power Regulator . Select the OS Control Mode . Press F10 to Save and Exit. Figure 1: HP Power Regulator setting at OS Control Mode in the RBSU.
