If iLO 2, iLO 3 or iLO 4 is configured to use a Shared Network Port, and the Shared Network Port's NIC is configured as a part of an HP ProLiant Network Adapter Team, iLO may not be able to communicate over the network. The network communication may be intermittent or non-existent, depending on the Teaming Mode chosen. However, iLO's network communication may function as expected. When this occurs, any or all of the following may be observed: iLO responds to pings intermittently or may not respond. iLO web pages may not load in a web browser. When attempting to connect to iLO via SSH, the session may not start or terminate unexpectedly. When attempting to run an XML script against iLO, the session may not start or terminate unexpectedly. This may occur as soon as iLO is configured to use the Shared Network Port and HP ProLiant Network Adapter Teaming is enabled for the Shared Network Ports NIC. This occurs because the Network Port that iLO is using for network access may not be used to transmit or receive data, depending on the Teaming Mode chosen. In particular, NFT, TLB, SLB, 802.3ad, and Automatic Teaming modes may cause iLO's receive traffic to be sent to a port that iLO is not listening on, or the transmit traffic to be sent from a port that the switch iLO is connected to is ignoring. This is not HP specific and will occur on other third-party vendor's platforms when they are configured similarly. In addition, this will occur regardless of the version of the NIC driver.
Any HP ProLiant server configured with iLO 2, iLO 3 or iLO 4.
As a workaround, select the appropriate HP Proliant Network Adapter Teaming mode and configure that mode with the Shared Network Port that iLO is using as the first port, (or primary port), in the list. The Teaming Mode and primary port are configured with the HP Network Configuration Utility that is the same utility used to set up the Network Team. Currently there are seven different HP Proliant Network Adapter Teaming modes. While five of the teaming modes may function as expected, the following two modes will function as expected: Network Fault Tolerance with Preference Order. When selecting this mode, ensure that the primary port chosen first is the Team that includes iLO's Shared Network Port. OR Transmit Load Balancing with Fault Tolerance and Preference Order. When enabling this mode, ensure that the primary port is selected first is the Team that includes iLO's Shared Network Port. Note: The Teaming Mode and primary port are chosen by running the HP Network Configuration Utility.
