Document Version Release Date Details 2 07/13/2018 Revised the first sentence of the Description section, added QLogic adapters to the Scope section, and added VMware updates to the Resolution section 1 12/11/2016 Original Document An unexpected behavior in the HPE QLogic 16 Gb and 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBA firmware causes a small amount of resources within the HBA to remain unavailable for use following Read Diagnostic Parameter (RDP) exchanges. Over time this can result in an unresponsive system. The amount of time for a system to be affected is approximately 85 days where the exchange resource count is set to 2048, and the RDP frequency is set to 1 per hour. With a higher RDP frequency, the amount of time for a system to be affected is shorter.
The unexpected behavior is specific to the following configurations: QLogic 16 Gb Fibre Channel HBAs running firmware 8.03.05 and earlier VMware 5.5u3 environments with a qlnativefc driver earlier than 1.1.77.0-1 VMware 6.0u2 environments with a qlnativefc driver earlier than 2.1.50.0-1 RDP functionality that is enabled QLogic 8 Gb Fibre Channel HBAs running firmware 8.03 and earlier VMware 6.5 & 6.5 U1 environments with a qlnativefc driver earlier than 2.1.73.0 with matching firmware VMware 6.7 environments with a qlnativefc driver earlier than 2.1.73.0 Operating Systems affected: VMware ESXi 5.5 VMware ESXi 6.0 VMware ESXi 6.5 VMware ESXi 6.7
Update VMware systems as follows: VMware 5.5u3 systems should be updated with the qlnativefc driver version 1.1.77.0-1 or later, which is available as a download from the HPE website or www.vmware.com . VMware 6.0u2 systems should be updated with the qlnativefc driver version 2.1.50.0-1, which is available in the HPE VMware Custom ISO 600.9.6.0.49 (2016-10-24). VMware 6.5, 6.5 U1, & 6.7 systems should be updated with the qlnativefc driver version 2.1.73.0 and its matching firmware version. HPE VMware Custom ISOs are available from www.vmware.com .
