Description:
Symptoms
Assume that you enable Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for a database in Microsoft SQL Server. Then, you back up the database by using a BACKUP DATABASE Transact-SQL statement that has the COMPRESSION and MAXTRANSFERSIZE options specified. If you specify a large value for the MAXTRANSFERSIZE option, the back-up operation may be unsuccessful, and you receive the following error messages: Msg 33111, Level 16, State 3, Line 24 Cannot find server certificate with thumbprint 'thumbprint'. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 24 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Resolution
This fix is included in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server: Cumulative Update 2 for SQL Server 2017 Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2016 SP1 Cumulative Update 9 for SQL Server 2016
