Description:

Symptoms

If you configure new runtime by changing the default R or Python language runtime version, and remove a patch between Cumulative Update 22 (CU22) and CU26 from the SQL Server 2017 RTM baseline, sp_execute_external_script fails.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server: Cumulative Update 27 for SQL Server 2017 About cumulative updates for SQL Server: Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Workaround

To work around the issue, you can use the following method: After removing the affected CU patch, you can uninstall the SQL Server Machine Learning Services R or Python features, and then reinstall it on the SQL Server 2017 RTM baseline.
