Description:

Impact: This includes Reset this PC, Push-button reset, and operations initiated through Mobile Device Management Originating KB URL: N/A Originating Build: N/A Resolved KB URL: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/5015879 Date Resolved: 2022-07-19T14:00:00-07:00 Vendor Message History: ======================= Published: 2022-08-27T00:41:52.79+00:00 ---------------------------------------- Universal Windows Platform (UWP) (https://docs.microsoft.com/windows/uwp/get-started/universal-application-platform-guide) apps may not open on devices which have undergone a Windows device reset (https://docs.microsoft.com/windows-hardware/service/desktop/resetting-the-pc). This can occur after operations initiated through Mobile Device Management (MDM), such as Reset this PC (https://support.microsoft.com/windows/give-your-pc-a-fresh-start-0ef73740-b927-549b-b7c9-e6f2b48d275e) (formerly known as Fresh Start), Push-button reset (https://docs.microsoft.com/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/push-button-reset-overview), and Autopilot Reset (https://docs.microsoft.com/education/windows/autopilot-reset). UWP apps that are downloaded from the Microsoft store are not affected. Only a limited set of apps are impacted: - app packages with framework (https://docs.microsoft.com/uwp/schemas/appxpackage/uapmanifestschema/element-framework) dependencies - apps that are provisioned (https://docs.microsoft.com/windows/configuration/provisioning-packages/provisioning-packages)for the device, not per user account Impacted apps will fail to open without error messages or other observable symptoms, and will need to be re-installed in order to restore functionality. Resolution: This issue was resolved in updates released July 19, 2022 (KB5015879 (https://support.microsoft.com/help/5015879)) and later. We recommend you install the latest security update for your device, as it contains important improvements and issues resolutions, including this one. NOTE: KB5015879 (https://support.microsoft.com/help/5015879) only prevents the issue from occurring after its installation but does not repair applications which were previously affected by this issue. If an app fails to open after a device reset, it must be re-installed. Affected platforms: - Client: Windows 11, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H1; Windows 10, version 20H2 - Server: Windows Server 2022; Windows Server, version 20H2
