Description:

Challenge

A backup or replication job fails with the following error when using a VMware Backup Proxy when that proxy is attempting to use Virtual Appliance transport mode (hotadd):

Cause

After moving, cloning, or restoring a VMware Backup Proxy, the UUID at the VMware level does not match the UUID that Microsoft gives a machine. When this occurs, the ESXi host Veeam is trying to do hot-add/virtual appliance mode with cannot find the VM by the UUID provided, as it has changed and is no longer valid.

Solution

Once the issue has been isolated to a specific VMware Backup Proxy, run the following PowerShell script on that proxy to remediate the issue:
