Configuring Cisco HyperFlex Platform Controller for DirectNFS Backups with VMware Snapshots

Last update date:

3/31/2023

Affected products:

Veeam Backup & Replication

Affected releases:

ALL

Fixed releases:

No fixed releases provided.

Description:

Purpose

This article describes how to configure the Cisco HyperFlex Controller's Firewall to allow Veeam Backup & Replication access the HyperFlex storage for use with DirectNFS transport mode. This is an alternative option to the Cisco HyperFlex Integration which allows for backup from Cisco HyperFlex snapshots.

Solution

These configuration changes only need to be made when the Cisco HyperFlex System is not added to the Veeam Storage Infrastructure, and DirectNFS with standard VMware snapshot processing will be used. Veeam recommends using the HyperFlex Integration with Backup from Cisco HyperFlex Snapshots instead of DirectNFS when possible.

More Information

Direct NFS Transport Mode Limitation DirectNFS transport mode cannot be used to back up a VM if a VMware Snapshot or Cisco HyperFlex snapshot is present on that VM before backup. For more information, review: DirectNFS Transport Mode Limitations This limitation does not occur when utilizing Backup from Cisco HyperFlex Snapshot.
